I think a lot of people found it distasteful to have a player enter the waiver draft 18 days after completing the Player Assistance Program.


But a lot of teams are intrigued by this, and I spoke with one of them that was holding a meeting about a possible trade for Vrana.


There is a sense that the Detroit-Vrana relationship is truly over.


Why not offer a deal where Detroit would keep $1. 8 million or $1. 9 million in cap space, or whatever amount would be equivalent to buying out Vrana`s contract?


Maybe this would be acceptable to Steve Yzerman and Detroit if they could get something in return for him.


Then this team does not take Vrana at full price, but gets him for a small discount. And he`s getting a player that can be a big contributor when it comes to the Stanley Cup Playoffs if he`s treated the right way, " Seravalli said.


The forward`s contract with a salary of $5. 25 million runs until the end of next season.


Vrana completed the NHL Player Assistance Program in December.
